Blood Donor Eligibility for Teens – New Rules from Red Cross
Posted on 16. Oct, 2009 by Charity Donation in Charity Donate
According to the modifications brought in by Red Cross for teenage blood donors, individuals below 19 needs to fulfill certain height and weight standards to become eligible for blood donation. The rules are more applicable to female blood donors and can restrict the total number of eligible blood donors. As per the new rules, the female blood donors who are 5’ 6” or taller need to have weight of at least 110 pounds to be able to donate blood. While 115 pounds is the weight requirement for a female 5’ 5” taller, 118 is minimum weight required for 5’ 4” tall women.
As it is clear from the pattern, the shorter you are, more the weight you need to possess. In case of male donors, 110 pound should be the weight of teens that are 5’ or taller. So, the rules are going to decrease the number of female blood donors, as compared to the number of male donors.
