Organ donation has led to an increase in the number of organ transplant operations to help save lives of hundreds of people every year. The Center for Donation and Transplant in New York has come with new rules to clear the confusion about who is authorized to take decision about a deceased or incapacitated person’s organ donation. While modifying the existing hierarchy, the highest authority for taking this decision has been granted to the patient’s health agent. The agent for disposition of remains has the second highest authority to decide what should be done with the body of a deceased person, as per the new rules of organ donation. Finally, the domestic partner of the patient is provided with third highest authority to take the decision.
Also, a new organ donation rules state that a living organ donor is eligible of claiming for medical expenses from the insurance company of the organ recipient. As obvious, there are some eligibility conditions and restrictions on the procedure. For instance, the medical care travel expenses can’t be included in the claim.
