In order to make drug donation successful, the World Health Organization (WHO) has prepared a number of guidelines, or what can be called the articles, to guide the donors. One of the important guidelines is that the drug donations should be relevant to the particular disease pattern in the recipient country or region, which expresses the need of a particular set of drugs. Second guideline is that the donated drug should be strictly approved for use in the recipient country.
Next, the donated drugs must have been purchased from a certified seller and manufactured by the recognized company. Drugs given to the medical professionals as samples are not eligible for donation, as per the guidelines of WHO. The date of arrival to the recipient country and expiration of the donated drug should be noted down by the recipient country. Next important guideline is that the donated drugs should be labeled in the language, understood by the recipient country. International standards must be followed to pack the donated drugs and cost of international transport must be handled by the donating body.
